Rotation vs Sticky Sessions — and Why It Decides Everything Here

NodeMaven gives you two session modes, and with most providers this is a routine configuration choice. With NodeMaven it is the single most consequential setting on the product, because the IP Quality Filter only works in sticky mode.

Rotating mode

A new IP on every request. This is the standard pattern for large-scale data collection: it spreads requests across as many addresses as possible and avoids hammering any single IP into a rate limit. It is the right mode for crawling many pages, checking prices across a catalogue, or collecting SERP data at volume.

The catch: independent testing confirmed that NodeMaven's quality filter does not apply during fast rotation. Proxyway's conclusion was blunt — NodeMaven's “defining feature… fails to work in any scenario that doesn't need sticky sessions.” In rotating mode you are buying an ordinary residential pool at a premium price.

Sticky mode

The same IP is held for a period. This is required for anything with continuity: logging in, filling a multi-step form, holding a cart, or driving a browser profile. It is also the only mode in which you get what you are actually paying NodeMaven for.

Session length is where NodeMaven's documentation lets it down. The residential product page says up to 7 days; the pricing page, IP Quality Filter page and comparison table all say up to 24 hours. We are not going to pick the flattering number. Here is what was actually measured:

Roughly six sessions in ten ran beyond 15 minutes, and about one in seven ended within five. That is normal for a residential network — the session lives only as long as the host device stays connected, which is outside any provider's control — but it is a long way from “7 days”. Design your workflow to tolerate a session ending, with re-authentication logic rather than an assumption of persistence.

If you genuinely need guaranteed persistence, metered residential proxies are the wrong product regardless of provider. NodeMaven's ISP proxies hold one dedicated IP for a full 30 or 90 days with unlimited traffic, which is the architecturally correct answer to that requirement.
Geo control

Targeting: Country, State, City, ISP and ZIP — All Plans Included

This is one of NodeMaven's clearest competitive advantages, and it is a packaging advantage rather than a technical one. Targeting granularity runs to five levels and is included on every plan at no surcharge — including the $8.50 entry tier.

  • Country — 190+ available, the baseline for most geo-testing and localised SERP work.
  • State or region — useful where regulation, pricing or content varies sub-nationally.
  • City — roughly 1,400 locations, the level most local-SEO and ad-verification work needs.
  • ISP — target a specific carrier's subscribers, which matters when a platform treats certain networks differently.
  • ZIP code — the finest granularity available, for hyper-local pricing, inventory and delivery checks.

Compare that with how competitors package the same capability. SOAX supports ASN and ZIP targeting only on its Scale plan at $1,500 per month. Webshare offers no ASN or ZIP targeting on standard plans at all. Decodo includes ZIP and ASN but does not allow ASN to be combined with other filters. IPRoyal's ISP targeting is enabled manually for enterprise customers. NodeMaven simply includes all five levels from the cheapest tier upward.

Always set explicit targeting. This is the most useful practical warning on this page. Independent testing found that with no location filters applied, roughly 25% of returned IPs came from Russia, with Brazil and China next most common. That reflects where the underlying network has supply, not a defect — but if you assume “global” means evenly distributed across 190 countries, your results will be badly skewed. Specify country at minimum, and city or ISP where it matters.

A second practical note: verify that city and ZIP targeting resolves where it claims to before building a workflow on it. Check the exit location against two independent geolocation databases, because databases disagree and a mismatch can invalidate localised data collection. Measured, not claimed

How Deep Is the Pool in Your Region?

Advertised pool size is close to meaningless — what matters is how many unique addresses you reach in the geography you actually target. NodeMaven advertises 30M+ residential IPs. Below is what independent measurement observed over sustained request volumes.

What to take from this. The US, UK and EU are genuinely well served — hundreds of thousands of unique addresses, high authenticity, and sub-second response times that compete with anything on the market. India and Brazil have surprisingly deep IP counts, but India's 2.18-second latency makes it slow to work with even though the addresses exist.

Australia is the outlier and the warning. Just 35,265 unique IPs and the lowest authenticity figure at 93.61%. If your workload is Australia-heavy, that pool will recycle addresses quickly against the same targets, which trips rate limits regardless of individual IP quality. The same caution applies more broadly to Asia-Pacific, where NodeMaven is measurably its weakest — for that, our alternatives guide points to Oxylabs.

For context on pool depth against competitors: Decodo returned 1,155,602 unique global IPs and 466,068 in the US in comparable testing, and SOAX 752,416 globally. NodeMaven sits between them — ahead of SOAX, behind Decodo — despite advertising a much smaller total pool than either.

The differentiator

The IP Quality Filter Applied to Residential IPs

Most providers handle bad IPs reactively: you hit a blocked address, rotate, retry, and you have already paid for the failed request. NodeMaven screens the address before assigning it, discarding anything that fails its fraud-score, blacklist and reputation thresholds. NodeMaven reports a resulting clean rate above 95%; that figure is vendor-reported.

The mechanism does hold up independently. Proxyway sampled 1,000 US residential IPs through Scamalytics:

A drop from 10.94 to 4.4 is a real, measured improvement, and it is unusual to be able to verify a marketing claim this cleanly. The filter costs nothing extra, is enabled by default, and applies to residential and mobile IPs.

The condition, restated because it matters most on this product. The filter requires sticky sessions. On fast-rotation workloads it is inactive, and you are paying premium residential rates for an ordinary pool. If you cannot use sticky sessions, either reconsider the configuration or reconsider the provider — Decodo's baseline pool measured cleaner on cross-provider abuse scoring and does not depend on session mode.

Sitting behind the filter is NodeMaven's quality guarantee, which is unusual in this category because it actually pays. Verify a blacklisted IP through Pixelscan, submit it with a screenshot, and NodeMaven credits $1 of bonus traffic per affected proxy, capped at 20% of monthly usage. Budget by request type, not by instinct

How far a gigabyte goes depends entirely on what you request. Plain HTML with images disabled runs 50 to 150 KB, so 1 GB covers roughly 7,000 to 20,000 pages. An API endpoint at 5 to 50 KB covers vastly more. A search results page at 200 to 600 KB gives you 1,700 to 5,000. A full product page with assets at 1 to 3 MB gives you 300 to 1,000.

The trap for account managers. An antidetect browser session consumes roughly 50 to 300 MB per hour. Three hours of profile work can absorb a whole gigabyte. If your workflow is browser-based rather than scripted, metered residential bandwidth is economically the wrong product — ISP proxies bill per IP with unlimited traffic and will cost you far less for the same work.

Two honest caveats. First, pool size is the least reliable number NodeMaven publishes: its own pages state 250,000 on the pricing page, 295,000 on the residential and rotating pages, and 200,000+ in the proxy comparison table. Three figures in three places, which is careless for a premium product. Second, no independent benchmark of the mobile pool exists in any source we could find — every mobile figure is vendor-reported.

For scale comparison, SOAX advertises 33M+ mobile IPs and IPRoyal 4.5M+, both far larger than NodeMaven on paper. The counter-argument is cost: NodeMaven's mobile access is effectively free with a residential plan, so the marginal cost of testing it against your own platforms is zero. Do exactly that during the trial rather than trusting any pool figure, including ours.

Getting connected is straightforward. In the dashboard's proxy generator you pick the target geography, choose rotating or sticky mode, select an authentication method, and receive a host, port and credentials.

  • Protocols: HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. Note that SOCKS5 here is TCP-only — UDP support exists only on NodeMaven's ISP product, which matters on platforms negotiating over QUIC or HTTP/3.

Proxyway timed 250 sessions and found 38.2% lasted beyond 25 minutes, 20.9% ran 15 to 25 minutes, 26.1% ran 5 to 15 minutes, and 14.9% ended within five. That is respectable for a residential network — session life ultimately depends on the host device staying online — but it is well short of either headline figure. Plan for session persistence, not session guarantees.

How large is the residential pool really?

NodeMaven advertises 30M+ IPs. What matters more is how many unique addresses you actually reach, and independent measurement gives that: over 21 days and 1.2 million requests, Proxyway observed 878,883 unique global IPs, including roughly 299,783 in the US, 200,385 in the UK, 404,847 across the EU, 357,573 in Brazil, 360,626 in India and 35,265 in Australia.

That is a large, usable pool for most workloads, though modest next to providers advertising 115M to 400M addresses. Pool authenticity was strong at 93.6% to 98.4% genuine residential depending on gateway.

What is the difference between rotating and sticky mode?

Rotating mode assigns a new IP on every request, which suits high-volume data collection where you want to spread requests across as many addresses as possible. Sticky mode holds the same IP for a set duration, which suits anything involving a login, a cart, a form or a session that must not change identity mid-task.

The critical detail specific to NodeMaven is that its IP Quality Filter only functions in sticky mode. If you rotate on every request, you are paying premium prices for filtering that is not active. This single fact should drive your configuration choice more than anything else.

Are NodeMaven residential proxies good for web scraping?

For moderate-volume scraping of ordinary pages, yes. Independent testing measured 99.50% success at 0.51 seconds in the UK, 99.21% at 0.71 seconds in the US and 99.17% at 0.68 seconds across the EU on small-page targets. Those are premium-tier numbers.

For scraping defended targets at scale, be cautious. How does the IP Quality Filter work on residential proxies?

Before an IP is assigned to your session, NodeMaven checks it against fraud-score, blacklist and reputation databases and discards addresses that fail its thresholds.
